Nowhere Man and a Whiskey Girl's style mirrors their life. Pianist/singer Amy Ross and guitarist Derrick Ross are nomads in the truest sense. Spending most of the past few years casting fate to the wind, they floated around but never truly settled in places like Nashville, and Arizona towns with colorful names like Wolfhole, Bisbee, Yodaville, Buckeye, Hell’s Dump, Willcox, and Mexican Hat. And like the myriad of locales the Ross’ have experienced, their music is also a melting pot of musical styles. At any given moment on their album, you’ll hear influences of Billie Holiday, Carole King, ragtime, Joni Mitchell, Robert Johnson, Pink Floyd, Sylvia Plath and absinthe, all wrapped in an eerie obsession with happiness and death. The Ross’ play around town quite frequently, so try to keep up with them because you never know when these talented souls will get that wanderin’ spirit, pull up stakes, hitch their wagon and ramble on into the sunset.
