Phoenix is in flux. As the youngest major American city, Arizona's capital is still searching for an identity. The Train Tracks wants to help. By combining two giant pieces of the puzzle – live local music and light rail, the crown jewel of our city's urban planning projects – The Train Tracks project shows Phoenix fulfilling its potential.
For us, as for many Phoenicians, the light rail tracks that run through 20 miles of metropolitan Phoenix aren't just a means of transportation – they are a symbol of an up-and-coming city's ambition.
We're proud to showcase this city with a soundtrack from the very best musicians the Valley of the Sun has to offer. Tune in every week for new video of Phoenix bands performing their songs acoustically for audiences aboard the streaking silver cars that carry our friends, neighbors, hopes and plans.
It gets better: Every three months we'll bring these local musicians together for a show at the Phoenix Art Museum where they will show their stuff for a live audience which will select one band to play at McDowell Mountain Music Festival, named the best in the area by Phoenix New Times in 2009.
Hop on board and be part of making Phoenix the city it should be.
